Denise Richards’ ‘horrifying’ version of ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’

Denise Richards offended baseball fans, music fans and everyone with working ears on Friday. She was asked to sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the 7th inning stretch of a Chicago Cubs game. She absolutely murdered the song. Which makes me wonder… why did they even ask her to sing? Did someone ask her, or did she volunteer? In any case, Denise knows that she screwed up, telling the Palm Beach Post (story via US Weekly) that she was “horrifying”:

Denise Richards admits her performance of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” over the weekend was hardly a homerun.

The actress screeched her way through the classic tune during the 7th inning stretch of the Chicago Cubs game on Friday.

“Horrifying,” she told the Palm Beach Post when asked about her performance. “I’m not a singer and then to be in front of all those people is a little terrifying.”

Still, Richards (a native of Downers Grove, Ill.) said she loved being at the famed Wrigley Field.

“You feel like it’s old-school baseball,” she said. “I love how the scoreboard isn’t all digital. It’s very authentic and traditional.”

She said she always loved baseball.

“I got into baseball with Charlie (Sheen, her ex-husband) because he’s such a fan,” she said. “And I played T-ball. I was the only girl on the boys team and I loved it. When I was a kid, I was such a tomboy and as I got a little older, that changed.”

Which celeb slugger would make a great reality show star?

“Alex Rodriguez,” said Richards, who has her own E! show. “Whenever you’re going through things in your personal life, you’re approached. I’m sure that’s why I was approached. And with the Internet and the tabloid magazines, your whole personal life is out there for everybody to see.”

At least they didn’t ask her to sing the National Anthem. You screw that up, your career is pretty much over. Denise’s career is already in the dumps, so perhaps that’s why she got the “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” pity assignment. And when Denise was with Charlie Sheen, she always pretended to be a huge baseball fan! Was she really into baseball or was she just into it because of Charlie?
